Harris's Sparrow

Photo of the Week (October 17th, 2021)

(archive photos of the week here)

A species I could probably make the featured photo about EVERY October.  I love October, and sparrow migration. We get such a great variety moving through at this time. One of my favorites though has always been the chunky Harris's Sparrow, which are always found here in good numbers at this time of year.

On the morning of October 17th I went out in search of migrating sparrows and wasn't disappointed. That included running into Harris's Sparrows in many locations. I have a billion Harris's Sparrow photos, but how can I resist another opportunity such as this, where one perches on a fence post, perfectly parallel to some gorgeous, warm, early morning light?  From near Corson, South Dakota.
