Wolf Photos

We've been to Yellowstone many times.  I've never seen a wolf there.  I never saw anything resembling a wolf until March 3rd, 2013, when I was looking for northern owls up in Sax-Zim Bog, north of Duluth, Minnesota.  Right at dawn, I decided to start slowly driving the smaller gravel roads to scan for owls near the roadside.  Just moments after getting on the gravel, I saw a large shape moving through the forest, parallel to me and the road.  I couldn't see what it was, but it seemed like it wanted to cross the road, so I stopped and waited, hoping it would cross in front of me.

What stepped out of the forest was certainly unexpected!  The wolf was certainly much larger than any coyote I've ever seen.  He stepped out of the forest, paused and turned his head to look at me, and then slowly trotted across the road and disappeared into the forest on the other side.  Multiple Minneosta DNR folks, including the large carnivore specialist and the guy that works the Sax-Zim area, confirmed it was indeed a wolf.
