Snapping Turtle Photo

This is the largest Snapping Turtle I've ever seen, and it hasn't even been close.  This was one of the first really warm days in May, 2004.  I was at the Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, shooting birds, when I saw this guy on a log.  Don't know if I'd want to be that (full-grown) Painted Turtle that's nose to nose with this monster.  Can't say as  I blame the painted for retreating into his shell!   Photo taken with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L.
