The first time I saw a Whooping Crane in South Dakota was a total surprise. I was driving to Pierre for a work conference, and happened across one, from rather long distance. The second time was magic...a PAIR of Whooping Cranes mysteriously hanging out in Sully County, South Dakota in the middle of August. Beautiful birds and wonderful to watch them interact for a few hours while I photographed them.
