Vermilion Flycatcher Photos

Photography by Terry Sohl

My Favorite:  Not a species I've run across very often! A bird of the southwestern U.S., they HAVE been found in South Dakota on extremely rare occasions (a handful of sightings). The only times I've seen them have been while on travel in Arizona.  The photos below are all of a male on the outskirts of Phoenix. I was staying at a hotel for a work conference, and the hotel grounds had some nice lakes and vegetation.  This guy was hanging out around a pond just outside my room, making for a welcome, and relatively easy, photo opportunity.
