This photo of a juvenile Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was taken on July 20th, 2008 at Newton Hills State Park in South Dakota. This little guy and 2 of his siblings were hanging out in a well pock-marked "sapsucker tree", an elm that was full of sapsucker drill wells. Every once in a while, the parent would come and offer the young some insects. Photo taken with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L.
