Drawing – Whip-poor-will

Drawing of Whip-poor-will by Terry SohlHere’s a bird a lot of people in the eastern half of the U.S. have probably heard, but one that probably very few people have seen. I too fall in that category. This is about as far west as they get, and I’ve heard them down at Newton Hills State Park in the southeastern corner of South Dakota, but I’ve never been able to get a photo.

So once again…I chose to draw something I don’t have a photo of!! They are strange looking birds, as are all their relatives (the “Goatsuckers”). It was fun to try drawing something so different.
