Drawing – Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush

Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush - By Terry SohlThe Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush is a bird of the tropics.  It had only been seen in the U.S. twice, both times on the far southern edge of Texas.  Then in the summer of 2010, a singing Orange-billed Nightingale-Thrush was found in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  This VERY lost bird drew birders from not only across the state and region, but from across the entire country.  It was a once-in-a-lifetime find, but alas, it was also on the opposite side of the state from where I live.  I never did get a chance to do the 6-hour drive to go see it.

So I thought tonight I’d rectify that, and draw it instead of photographing it!  Click for a larger view.
