You didn’t say if we have these birds in Midwest. Do both males and females have the red markings?
They’re a rarity on the interior of the continent, but there are a handful of records in South Dakota. Both of them do have the red, but only during the breeding season.
Really beautiful birds, very elegant looking. I was glad to get the chance to see them in Alaska.
