Just back from a family vacation to the coast of Maine. We had a wonderful cottage we rented on the shoreline, northeast of Acadia National Park. I REALLY needed to get away from work and other responsibilities, so I left the laptop at home, thinking that if I really wanted to check the internet, I could use my new Kindle Fire. After all, the web page said the cottage had internet access.
Imagine my dismay when we arrive, and the only internet available is wired internet for a laptop. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Disaster!!!!!!! NO INTERNET for days!! It’s a nightmare come true!!
OK, actually…it was rather refreshing! It was rather nice not having any of the angst that comes with reading the headlines, seeing what’s happening on the political front, seeing another story about environmental destruction or how cruel people can be to one another. Out-of-sight, out-of-mind, right? That certainly was the case for me for the past 2 weeks. A well needed break from reality…
Wonderful vacation, but now back to reality. With work travel, vacation, and other happenings, I’ve only slept in my own bed 8 times in the past month. The best parts of vacation to me are always the excitement when you’re leaving, and the comfort of arriving back home.
