I see these guys quite a bit, but for breeding in this part of South Dakota, it's a little more iffy. The one place I always seem to find good numbers of breeding birds is at Lake Whitewood. It's really become one of my absolutely favorite places to bird in late May through early July. In late May, it's watching the absolutely beautiful courtship displays between the adult Grebes. Often you can also see as they build their nests in the shallows, watch them incubate the eggs, and then comes these cute little guys!! What could be cuter than carrying one of their beautiful little chicks on their backs? I was very glad to be able to capture this adult and chick at close range.
