Shorebirds are tough around here at times. I've found they couldn't care less about someone in a car, so I've often used my car as a blind with them. However, in recent years, water levels in my favorite shorebird spots have been declining. Former shallow water habitats next to roads are now much further out from the road, eliminating the possibility of using my car as a blind.
They're a lot tougher to approach on foot around here, but yet on this day, this bird approached me, calling up a storm as I walked on a mud flat at Lake Thompson in Kingsbury County. It was nice to get a flight shot with good wing position, and in mid-call. Photo taken on August 1st, 2008.
