South Dakota Birds and Birding Devoted to Birds, Birding, and Photography |
This is from what was my favorite family vacation, a 10-day trip to Arizona in the fall of 2006. We stayed at multiple locations throughout the state, but our favorite was a small bed-and-breakfast on the outskirts of Tucson, next to Saguaro National Park. They had their own 80 acres of Sonoran Desert landscape. Every morning before my wife and won would get up, I'd wander out at dawn. A great variety of birds, especially for a South Dakota guy, and even a little family group of Peccaries I ran into one morning! Here's a curious Gilded Flicker poking his head out of a nest hole in a Saguaro.
Photo taken on September 13th, 2006, near Tucson, Arizona.
