Alaska Photo Gallery (June, 2006)
I had the fortune of spending 7 days in Alaska in June, 2006. OK, sure, most of that was for work, but work in this case meant FIELD work, which meant driving and flying around, looking at the landscape. That alone gave me the opportunity to see the south-central part of Alaska from near Denali in the North, to Homer in the South. I also had 2 days to poke around on my own. I had an especially fun day down around Seward, highlighted by a wildlife cruise that went by nesting Puffins and other seabirds, and came across Killer Whales, Humpback Whales, Steller's Sea Lions, and Sea Otters at close range.
Fun trip, both for the animals and the scenery. I ended up taking close to 1,000 photos, and here are some of my favorites. I've broken it up into three sections: Birds, other animals, and scenery/landscape.
Note most of the birds in these photos are wild, but I did visit the Seward SeaLife Center, where you can practically touch Puffins and other sea birds from this area. A few of the shots (like the Tufted Puffin) are from the SeaLife Center, as the shots I got of them in the wild weren't too good.
